Master Wanka Workshop – Introduction
The Master Wanka Workshop was established in 1971 by Herbert Wanka.
From 1952 to 1955, Herbert Wanka studied musical instrument making at the Musikinstrumentenbauschule (School of Musical Instrument Making) in Bubenreuth, Bavaria, Germany, under the guidance of master craftsman Emanuel Buchner. After completing his apprenticeship, he became a skilled bow maker and worked in the workshop of Master Gotthard Schuster, who was considered one of the most respected German bow makers of that era. Herbert Wanka remained there for several years.
In 1968, he passed the master craftsman examination at the Nuremberg Chamber of Crafts. In 1971, he opened his own workshop in Bubenreuth. In 1977, he moved his workshop to the nearby town of Baiersdorf.
